The perfect mounting height for flatscreen TVs depends on a few factors:
- Size of the TV
- Distance between your couch and the TV
- Type of mount
- Comfort and preference
Need help identifying the perfect spot for your TV? All Systems Audio & Video installs flat screens of all sizes in locations of all varieties. We are happy to help you select the ideal mounting height for your flat screen TV and make the best recommendations for placement.
A general rule of thumb is to position the center of the screen at seated viewer eye level. In most living rooms, that height is 42” off of the floor. The size of the TV – more specifically, the diagonal length of the screen – helps determine the ideal mounting location. The optimum viewing distance from the TV is 1.5 to 2x the diagonal length of the screen.
The type of mount also impacts the ideal height for your TV. A tilting mount gives you a little more flexibility on height, as you can angle it to the perfect viewing angle. Keep in mind that tilting mounts also require the TV to be set a bit off of the wall in order to achieve varying degrees of angles. Another mounting option are articulating arm mounts. These types of mount will give you optimal flexibility to move and rotate the display
No modern American home is designed without regard to the location of the television. It’s a major fixture of most living spaces.
