Curved TVs: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Curved TVs are trending, and Samsung, LG, and Sony are cashing in. Curved TVs aren’t for everyone, though, so we’ve brought you the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly about curved TVs:
The Good
-
Immersive viewing experience. The curve seems to wrap around you, which draws you into what you’re watching. This depth can make you feel like you’re watching in 3D.
-
Wide viewing field. The curved edges come toward you, creating the illusion of a wider screen. Although a 55-inch flat screen TV is the same size as a 55-inch curved TV, the curve makes the screen appear larger.
-
Curved TVs emulate a movie theater experience, and for trend chasers, they look cool.
The Bad
-
Shaped glass creates weird reflections, so any direct light across from the TV will hinder your viewing experience.
-
Limited viewing angles. Don’t expect to throw a Super Bowl party. Some of your guests won’t have the same experience if they’re not seated opposite from the TV.
The Ugly
-
Sloppy wires. Since the edges of the TV curve toward you, wires are exposed from the side. Depending on where you mount the curved TV, it can look sloppy from various positions in the room. At All Systems AV, we hate visible wires!
